About

I was introduced to woodworking as a young child in my Grandfather’s wood shop. He was a carpenter by trade and I was only allowed to use the hand tools. No power tools. Hence, I’ve been working with my hands my whole life. I am a journeyman electrician and electrical engineer by education and careers, but I’ve been woodworking as a hobby for over 20 years.

I love the Arts & Crafts era of furniture design. The usefulness, strength and beauty of Mission style furniture like Stickley, Amish and Dutch are the basis for all my designs. I love the natural look of wood and the grain. The grain tells the life story of the wood and I love to highlight the grain. I also love the challenges working with wood has to offer. There is always something new to learn. I try my best to make everything perfect, but alas, entropy is always present with chip-out, cracks, splits and other surprises. I do my best to fix or hide entropy and mistakes, but some things may still be noticeable. Such is the nature of handmade woodwork, beautiful but may have flaws. It’s the flaws that give each piece uniqueness and character. Please take a look at my collection.

Many people over the years have asked me to start offering my woodwork and services for others, welcome to Kurt’s Fine Woodworking. I hope you enjoy my work!
